Virginia's free CJISWeb Circuit Court Case Information portal lets you look up dissolution of marriage filings in Page County and other participating courts. Search by party name, case number, or hearing date. There is no charge to use the portal.

CJISWeb shows the case number, filing date, party names, scheduled hearing dates, and case status codes. It does not display the text of the decree or any filed documents. For full case documents, you must go through the Page Circuit Court Clerk directly.

If you need to search across multiple court levels, the OCIS statewide system combines data from general district courts, juvenile and domestic relations courts, and select circuit courts. This is useful if a Page County dissolution case has associated protective order or custody proceedings in a lower court.

Under Virginia law, divorce records at the circuit court are generally public under Titles 16.1 and 17.1 of the Code of Virginia unless a court order restricts access. The Virginia Courts site explains how to request public records from circuit court clerks in Page and elsewhere in the state.

Note: Page County cases filed before the court's electronic system began may not appear online. Contact the clerk if you need older records, as some may be stored on microfilm or in an off-site facility.

Page County Vital Records and Certified Copies

The Virginia Department of Health Office of Vital Records keeps a statewide divorce index that includes records from Page County. VDH issues verification letters confirming the names of the parties, the date of the dissolution, and the place where the divorce was granted.

VDH records do not include copies of court decrees or case files. Those must come from the Page Circuit Court Clerk. Divorce records held by the VDH are confidential for 25 years from the divorce date. After that period, any member of the public may request them. During the restricted period, only the parties, their immediate family, or authorized legal representatives may get copies.

You can apply online, by mail, or in person at 8701 Park Central Drive, Suite 100, Richmond, VA 23227. The fee is $12 per copy. Call (804) 662-6200, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, for help with your request. In-person drop-offs must arrive by 2:00 PM. Express processing is available for an additional fee if you need the record quickly; mailed requests typically take about two weeks.

Dissolution Laws That Apply in Page County

All dissolution of marriage proceedings in Page County are governed by Virginia statute. Code Section 20-96 gives Virginia circuit courts exclusive jurisdiction over divorce, annulment, and affirmation of marriage. Every Page County case must be filed with the Page Circuit Court.

The grounds for divorce are set out in Code Section 20-91. Fault grounds include adultery, cruelty, willful desertion, and felony conviction with imprisonment. For a no-fault divorce, the parties must live separate and apart for one full year. That separation period is six months if the parties have a written separation agreement and no minor children.

At least one party must be a bona fide Virginia resident for six months before filing under Code Section 20-97. Virginia military members stationed in the state for at least six months are presumed to meet this requirement.

Privacy protections under Section 20-121.03 require that sensitive personal identifiers, including Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers, dates of birth, and financial account numbers, be placed in a confidential addendum separate from the public divorce decree. The Page Circuit Court Clerk maintains this addendum under restricted access.

What Page County Dissolution Records Contain

The case file at the Page Circuit Court Clerk's office includes the complaint, responsive pleadings, motions, temporary orders, any settlement agreement, and the final divorce decree. These documents are public records unless restricted by court order. The full file is available for inspection during regular office hours.

The confidential addendum filed under Section 20-121.03 is stored separately and cannot be shared with the general public. Only the parties, their attorneys, and authorized government agencies may access this addendum. The copy of a decree you receive from the Page clerk will not include the protected identifiers in the addendum.

For most common legal uses, the public copy of the decree is enough. Remarriage, a driver's license name change, passport applications, and other standard purposes all typically require just the public decree. If sensitive data was mistakenly placed in the public file, a motion to correct the record must be filed with the Page Circuit Court.

Property transfers tied to a Page County divorce settlement will be recorded in the court's land records. Quitclaim deeds and instruments of conveyance executed as part of the property division should appear there. The Secure Remote Access to Land Records system may allow online searches if Page County participates. Ask the clerk's office about registration options.
